چکیده

This paper is based on the insight that intelligent system validation is a complex social process involving issues ranging from mathematics and software engineering to cognitive psychology and social sciences. To cope with the intrinsic complexity of the problem, there is developed a so-called \Tur-ing Test Methodology" for intelligent system validation. This is substantially distinguished from the perspective underlying the Loebner Prize business. There is an urgent need to provide a rm basis for integrating very diverse disciplines towards a comprehensive approach to validation. For this reason, much emphasis is put on the conceptual fundamentals. First, several concepts of veriication and validation are surveyed. The favoured concepts are lucidly characterized by the words that ver-iication guarantees to build the system right whereas validation deals with building the right system. Second, the thought-experiment called the Turing test is critically inspected. It turns out that, although this approach may not be suu-cient to reveal a system's intelligence, it provides a suitable methodological background to certify a system's validity. The principles of the validation approach are surveyed. Finally, further steps beyond the present elementary approach are outlined. On the one hand, there are systematically presented a few important generalizations. On the other hand, an implementation of the basic Turing test scenario is sketched. In the coming phase of their research and development project, the authors will invoke the methodology developed and outlined here for prototypical system validation. However, this is beyond the present paper.

A TURING Test Scenario to Estimate an AI System's Validity

There is an urgent need to develop, to implement and to apply methodologies resp. tools for complex system validation. The inability to evaluate complex systems may become a crucial limiting factor to future technological progress. The authors are engaged in a quite comprehensive endeavour towards intelligent system validation. This paper deals with both the fundamentals of a so-called \TURING ...

Fundamentals of a TURING Test Approach to Validation

This paper deals with the very fundamentals of a socalled \Turing Test Methodology" for expert system validation which was recently proposed by [KP96]. It is more intended to provide a rm basis for discussions among the engaged scientists than to become a conference contribution. For this purpose, emphasis is put on a detailed and, perhaps, a little long-winded discussion, in some places. There...

Towards an Assessment of an Ai System's Validity by a Turing Test

The authors present some ideas on developing a validity statement based on a Turing-test methodology with a set of "good" test cases. The objective of this is, of course, to make the result of the validation process (the validity statement) more objective. Furthermore, in an eeort to maximize objectivity, the approach described here includes a competence scale for each validator. This is done f...

A TURING Test Approach to Intelligent

The authors present some ideas on developing a validity statement based on a Turing test { like methodology with a set of test cases. The (anonymous) solutions of these test cases will be rated by a panel of expert validators. The methodology is called the Turing test, because a random process of distributing the test case with solutions to the diierent validators ensures that no validator know...
